Major Research Project of the Ministry of Education for Philosophy and Social Sciences — International Comparative Study on Digital Transformation in Education

The Major Research Project of the Ministry of Education for Philosophy and Social Sciences, titled “International Comparative Study on Educational Digital Transformation,” was approved in 2022 and is led by Professor Wu Di with a total funding of 800,000 RMB.

This project focuses on important challenges in China’s ongoing digital transformation of education. It aims to clarify the goals and scope of this transformation, identify its key elements, outline clear steps for implementation, and evaluate the results. Using an international comparative approach, the project combines policy analysis, focused comparisons, and pathway studies. It looks at the overall goals and logical frameworks of digital education policies and standards in different countries, comparing how each nation innovates and reforms educational environments, resources, teaching methods, and the development of digital skills among teachers and students. The project also assesses how effective these efforts are, identifies common strategies and best practices, and develops a customized roadmap for China’s digital education transformation that suits its unique needs.

The research team works closely with leading institutions in educational digital transformation, including the Chinese Academy of Education Sciences, Beijing Normal University, East China Normal University, South China Normal University, Southern University of Science and Technology, and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. The project also receives expert support from UNESCO’s Institute for Information Technologies in Education, UNESCO’s Center for Higher Education Innovation, the UK National Center for Education Technology and Standards, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and the China Educational Technology Association.
